Is Vaping CBD bad for Your Lungs?

One current trend of consumption for CBD is vaping. It’s easy and produces effects very quickly by delivering the product directly into the lungs. However, two major areas of concern with this method gaining popularity amongst consumers are whether it’s safe to vape CBD and if there are any negative side effects to be aware of.

Is CBD safe in general?

Since CBD is extracted directly from the hemp plant, which notably has a low level of a THC (The chemical within the Cannabis plant which possesses psychoactive properties); it doesn’t produce a feeling of being “high”  Instead, you get all the benefits of the extract without undesirable side effects. Health professionals have declared CBD to be safe for consumption, but you should always do research of you intend to incorporate it into your regimen. This is especially true if you have prescription medications that you are currently taking.

Vaping CBD

Vaping, conceptually, is quite simple; the device used and the act itself mimics smoking a cigarette. You can use an e-cigarette, a vape pen, or a personal vaporizer to vape e-liquids. CBD E-liquid is pretty much the same as the e-liquid that is used for electronic cigarettes. The difference is that the active ingredient in the “vape juice” is CBD instead of nicotine. It comes in many different flavors and concentrations for your convenience; it should be noted that CBD oil is not suitable for inhalation and though a product may be labeled as “vape oil”, it does not actually contain any oil.

Lung safety and CBD

CBD E-Liquid and other CBD products are highly known for having anxiety reducing properties. Many consumers also use CBD to provide relief from neurodegenerative disorders, depression, acne, seizures, chronic pain and inflammation, and autoimmune diseases. Regarding the lungs, CBD actually protects them and promotes cardiovascular health because it is a bronchodilator. This means that it relaxes the airways and widens them to allow for easier breathing in situations such as shortness of breath, wheezing, and difficulty breathing in general.

CBD also helps to soothe the smooth muscles around the airways which prevent muscle spasms, usually a symptom of an asthma attack. Since CBD has anti-inflammatory properties, it reduces a inflammation throughout the body, including the lungs, and even helps fight lung infections. Lastly, CBD, as mentioned earlier, helps reduce anxiety, which is a trigger for respiratory distressing situations of hyperventilating or being unable to breathe easily as a result of anxiety.

There are some concerns with vaping in general, but they are not particular to CBD. Always start slow and low when evaluating the necessary dosage, should you choose to add CBD to your regimen. Depending on your specific needs, you may eventually require a higher dosage, but you should gradually build your tolerance until you receive the desired effects.
